Winter 2014: Reach 11 is a trail in the northern part of Phoenix/Scottsdale. Like many trails, it's a little...exposed. These are pictures from several morning walks during my winter 2014 visit to AZ.

It was suggested to me by a Flickr user that this is an ootheca, a casing for eggs. I think it might be for a mantis?

I think this is Orange Fiddlestick and I ID'd it using some knowledge I got from the 6-wk ID course thru the UW Botanic Gardens. I really loved this class and recommend it highly.

A closer look at globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua - I think)

Lycium fremontii, wolfberry. All initial sources i found say they're edible. Related to both tomatoes & bittersweet nightshade.
I think this is Desert Heron's Bill (Erodium texanum) and a relative of our own Stinky Bob.
